Neighbourhood character guidelines
Neighbourhood character is shaped by the combination of the public and private areas within a neighbourhood including all buildings, gardens, street trees and public infrastructure.
Council undertook a review of its municipal wide neighbourhood character study in 2010. The study identified 13 character precincts, key characteristics and distinguishing features of Maribyrnong’s residential areas.
Preferred character statements outline the preferred character of different precincts and help guide future development. These statements are included in the Maribyrnong Planning Scheme as a local policy at Clause 22.05.
