As part of its mission to better serve the Maribyrnong community and continue developing its swim teachers, Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre (MAC) recently had 17 staff members complete training run by the industry body, Life Saving Victoria, to enhance their skills in working with students with higher needs.
The course focused on equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to identify the needs of participants with disabilities in an aquatic setting. The training builds on their existing qualifications and experience as AUSTSWIM-certified swim teachers.

By continuing to train and and educate MAC’s Learn to Swim Support Staff, the Centre can pass on specialist knowledge to other swim teachers which is vital as the Centre looks to grow it’s access and inclusion programs.
The Learn to Swim Support Team is a specialist role at Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre. They serve as the primary point of contact between parents/guardians and swim teachers, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the 2,000+ Learn to Swim students who visit MAC each week.
