The City of Maribyrnong is a growing arts and cultural centre, with the arts and creative industries recognised by Council as being an important contributor to improving the wellbeing of our residents and the liveability and community harmony of our City. As well as generating intrinsic value, it contributes to economic, social and community development, enhancing quality of life as it drives the economy.

Various reports detail the current state of the arts at a national and state level, but little is known more locally about the arts and creative industries sectors. This report examines the current state of the sector and its contribution to livability and social cohesion. The results will provide a context for future arts planning and development.
