Gender Equality Initiatives and Partnerships

We deliver a range of initiatives and work in partnership with local and state stakeholders to promote gender equity and prevent violence against women. 

Partnerships

We work in partnership and participate in a range of networks to improve gender equity:

• Member and signatory to Preventing Violence Together (PVT), the Western regional partnership and strategy that guides the primary prevention of men’s violence against women across Melbourne’s west.
• Member of the Municipal Association of Victoria Gender Equality and Preventing Violence Against Women and all forms of Gender-Based Violence Network

• Member of the Safe and Equal Partners in Prevention Network 

• Signatory to the Victorian Local Government Women's Charter.

Initiatives

Council supports and participates in a number of key initiatives that promote gender equality, such as:

• Community programs encouraging women to participate in civic life 
• Increasing the participation of women and girls in sport
• Promoting gender equity in early years
• Encouraging and supporting women to run in local government elections
• Celebrating and encouraging women and gender diverse people in create culture and the Arts
• Gender Impact Assessments to ensure Council services, programs and policies improve gender equity 
• Celebrate International Women's Day and 16 Days of Activism with a range of community events
• Being accredited as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace with the Australian Breastfeeding Association
