16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on the 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

16 Days of Activism raises awareness about gender-based violence and its impact on physical, psychological and social wellbeing and aims to galvanise action to end gender-based violence.

This campaign encourages people to call out sexism, sexual harassment and disrespect. Council believes it is everyone’s job to address language, attitudes and behaviours that endorse violence and disrespect based on gender. We all have a part to play.

Council supports and champions this work in many ways each year, and this year is no different. Please find a snapshot of some of the events planned so far that we are supporting.

Check out our events and ways you can get involved below.

If you or someone you know is experiencing family violence, help is available. You can call the 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).  If you're in immediate danger, call the Police on 000.

This year, we are also focusing on highlighting the issue of technology facilitated abuse. We are raising awareness about the impacts this abuse can have specifically on women and girls with disabilities, through an upcoming event that is still in the planning stage. Please keep an eye on our website for more details.
