Can I bring someone with me to an immunisation appointment?

Yes.

Do I need to bring anything with me to an immunisation appointment?

Yes. You need to bring with you the following items:

  • Your Medicare card.
  • Your child's Childhood Health Record Book.

Speak to the Immunisation Nurse if you have any concerns about immunisations.

Can I enrol my child for kinder/childcare without being immunised?

Under the State Government's No Jab No Play (2016) laws, all parents/carers planning to enrol their child at childcare or kindergarten must provide the service with:

  • a current Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register); and
  • the statement must show that the child is up to date with all vaccinations that are due for their age, or that they are able to receive.

Choosing not to immunise your children may result in some tax and childcare benefits being withheld by other government agencies in accordance with the Federal Government's No Jab No Pay (2018) Policy.  For more information contact your local Centrelink office.

How do I provide proof my child is immunised?

Each time your child receives immunisation we are required by law to inform the Australian Government's Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) which is a national register that records vaccines received by people at all ages in Australia.  Your child's Immunisation History Statement is available via the myGov website.

To enrol your child for childcare, kindergarten and/or school you will need to provide your child's immunisation history statement.  Centrelink also uses immunisation history statements to determine eligibility for some family assistance payments.  Contact Centrelink for more information on family assistance payments.

Accessing immunisation history statements

For children under 14 years of age

There are several ways of obtaining an immunisation history statement if your child is under 14 years of age.

You can:

  1. Log onto your Medicare online account through the myGov website or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
  2. Ask you general practitioner or vaccination provider to provide you with a copy from AIR.
  3. You can contact the AIR enquiries line by calling 1800 653 809 Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm, excepting public holidays.

For children 14 years of age and over

Children 14 years of age or older must obtain their immunisation statements themselves via one of the above methods due to privacy laws.  Children can provide authorisation to Services Australia for their parents to access their immunisation history statements.

What if you are not eligible for Medicare?

If you are not eligible for Medicare don't worry you can still access your child's immunisation history statement.

To access immunisation statements you will need to:

  1. Apply for an Individual Healthcare Identifier from the Services Australia website, if you don't already have one.
  2. Once you receive your Individual Healthcare Identifier, register on the My Health Record website.
  3. Create a myGov account.
  4. Link your My Health Record account to your myGov account.
