What goes into the yellow recycling bin?
Rule number 1: Always remember to empty your recycling into the bin loose. Plastic bags and soft plastics cannot go in the recycling bin.

- Steel cans, aluminium tins and foil
- Empty hard plastic bottles and containers (numbers 1, 2 and 5)
- Old newspapers and magazines
- Clean paper and cardboard
- Empty glass jars and bottles
- Printed paper material (junk mail) and envelopes

- Bagged recycling (always empty into bin loose)
- Plastic bags and soft plastic film like cling wrap
- Mixed material coated beverage cartons (UHT or juice cartons)
- Smashed or broken glasses or plates
- Unwanted clothing items and footwear
- Garden waste
- Food scraps
- Batteries and electronics

What happens to the waste from recycling bins?
The items from your recycling bin are sorted at the Cleanaway Recycling Materials Recovery Facility in Laverton. Recycling services remain unchanged, and all recycling continues to be separated, recycled and diverted from landfill. Find out more via the link below.
Council does not support incineration of waste including recyclables.
