Time to Stand for Maribyrnong City Council

If you want to have a role in shaping the future of the City of Maribyrnong, now is the time to consider becoming a candidate in this year’s Council elections.
Maribyrnong City Council needs strong and diverse leadership to represent our community. If you are a community leader or feel ready to take on an influential leadership role, consider becoming a candidate in this year’s Council elections.
Councils are the closest level of government to community. To represent their communities successfully, they need great quality candidates to put their hand up for election.
To support potential candidates, Council is hosting a free online information session on Wednesday 31 July from 6-8pm to provide insight into the role of Local Government and what you can expect if elected to Maribyrnong City Council.
The session will also provide an overview about what it means to stand for Local Government, including how councils work, the responsibilities of councillors, and key issues to consider if standing for Council.

Nominations to be a candidate open on 9 September and close at 12 pm on 17 September. Find out more about becoming a candidate on the VEC website.
Residents encouraged to enrol for the upcoming election
Eligible residents and ratepayers are urged to check they are enrolled to vote for the upcoming local council elections by 4pm Wednesday 7 August.
If you’re 18 or over and you live in or pay rates, enrol and have your say on the future of your local council.
Australian citizens who have recently turned 18 or changed address can enrol or update their details on the VEC website.
Anyone on the state electoral roll is automatically enrolled for their current address for these elections. There are also additional council enrolment categories for non-resident owners, occupiers, company nominees and non-Australian citizens who pay rates.
