New lighting for Yarraville Tennis Club
Published on 06 September 2021
Play can now be extended at the eight tennis courts at the Yarraville Tennis Club following the installation of 10 new 15 metre tall lighting towers around the perimeter of the facility.
Funded by Council in partnership with the Club, the new modern lighting system improves both player safety and accessibility to the courts for social and competitive play, and during night games and activities.
Yarraville Tennis Club is one of the leading clubs in the Western suburbs of Melbourne providing playing opportunities for adults and juniors, social tennis and coaching. It is a much-loved social and competitive tennis club that has provided tennis in the Yarraville/Footscray area since 1914.
Club President, Denise Clarke said it was an exciting moment when the new LED lights on all eight courts were switched on for the first time for Night Competition play.
“The difference in the lighting quality is enormous - as is the functionality,” said Denise. “The previous lights took 15-20 minutes to warm up and lux reading faded as the years progressed. The new lights turn on instantaneously and are not expected to fade over the years.”
“The court areas are evenly lit so there are no dark spots around the courts. The walkways around the courts are also now generously lit improving the ambience around the courts at night making them more inviting and convivial,” Denise continued.
The ten new lighting towers house energy efficient LED light fittings, helping reduce Council’s impact on the environment while producing illumination levels that meet modern standards for local community competitions and social activities. With these upgrades there are now a total of 10 lighting towers throughout the Club, boosting accessibility and safety for all players.
