New Chief Executive Officer appointed

The Mayor and Councillors are pleased to announce the appointment of Celia Haddock as Maribyrnong City Council’s Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Haddock will transition into the role of Chief Executive Officer officially on Monday 11 October having been acting CEO for the past three months following the resignation of former CEO Stephen Wall in late July.

Mayor, Cr Michael Clarke, said the recruitment process was robust and extensive and Ms Haddock was chosen from an extremely strong field of outstanding candidates. It is to Ms Haddock’s credit that she was able to outperform them all.

“Celia is a highly experienced, values based and adaptive leader with a track record of achievement, both as a senior public sector executive and Board member. She has demonstrated a passion for our community throughout her eight years of service to Maribyrnong, both in her substantive role as Director Corporate Services and most recently acting in the Chief Executive Officer role.

“We have no doubt she will continue to give her all to our City and have every confidence in her  ability to step up into the role permanently and lead us forward to deliver on Council’s vision and our community’s aspirations. She has our full support.”

Celia Haddock has spent the last 17 years in local government senior executive roles at Maribyrnong, Manningham and Yarra Councils. The past eight years have been with Maribyrnong City Council following her appointment in 2013 as Director, Corporate Services responsible for ensuring high level services across a significant portfolio including governance, commercial services, finance, communications and engagement, customer service, corporate performance, people and capability, information and digital technology, and statutory and strategic planning.

It is an absolute privilege and honour to accept this role and I look forward to working with Councillors to deliver on their vision, strategic objectives and advocacy priorities; and strengthen the work of our staff to achieve the ambitious plans for our City.

There is a lot happening in our City currently – with over six billion dollars of State Government infrastructure in the pipeline – coupled with Council’s own ambitious program of works and I am absolutely committed to ensuring these projects deliver the best outcomes for our community.
