How could we improve your experience using McIvor Reserve?
Published on 03 June 2022
McIvor Reserve in Yarraville supports an active community, providing for a range of sports and green space for recreational use. But as our population grows – with an expected doubling of the local population from 15,000 - 30,000 by 2041 – so too will the demand on the existing sport and recreation facilities.
We think it’s time for an upgrade and want to understand your thoughts.
McIvor Reserve services a variety of codes, including hockey, soccer, baseball, football and cricket, with the associated open space also housing an off-leash dog area, playground, and sports pavilions.
With increasing pressure on the existing facilities, it’s time to consider how to ensure the Reserve remains a welcoming and inclusive place where the community can continue to come together to play, connect or relax.
There is opportunity to upgrade some of the basics – like lighting, fencing the oval surface and informal recreation space – but because Council also wants to make full use of available recreational space in the municipality it also wants to discuss the opportunity to build a new indoor sports facility on the site.
McIvor Reserve is one of the few locations that could support a multi-use six court facility that could service sporting codes, such as basketball, netball, volleyball, and futsal; and without impacting on continued use by sporting clubs and others who enjoy the space currently.
We need your help – we want to understand how you currently use the Reserve, what you like about it and what you think about the potential for a new indoor sports facility there. Your feedback will help inform a new Master Plan for McIvor Reserve to guide its future development.
