Maribyrnong’s waste services go digital

Maribyrnong City Council has launched a free smart phone app for residents with recycling and bin information. The Maribyrnong Bins and Recycling App will let residents keep track of their bin collection, while also providing up-to-date information on new recycling and waste services.

Residents using the app will have the ability to look up different items to find out whether or not they are recyclable and how they can be disposed. The app will help to address some of the misinformation regarding waste and recycling, particularly with common items such as coffee cups and batteries.  

Recycling is one of the most effective means of reducing waste. Maribyrnong City Council is committed to reducing recycling contamination by 50% and increasing waste diversion to 46%.  

Other features of the app include the ability to set up alerts for bin collection, book a free hard waste service, order additional bins, find out about local events or report illegally dumped material. The app provides a personalised and user-friendly guide to waste services in Maribyrnong.  

The Maribyrnong Bins and Recycling App is available for free in the Apple App Store and on Google Play. The first 100 residents to download the app will receive a free keep cup and eco bag.  

A word from the Mayor, Cr Catherine Cumming:  

‘We are very excited about the launch of the Maribyrnong Bins and Recycling App and the ease in which waste and recycling information can now be made available to residents. This free digital tool will enable Maribyrnong residents to stay up-to-date with bin collection days and learn what can and cannot be recycled in kerbside bins.’
