Marching forward on International Women’s Day
Published on 27 February 2025
Council will be celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 by supporting a host of events towards a gender equal future.
This year’s theme - ‘March forward for all women and girls’ - calls for action to unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a future where no one is left behind.
City of Maribyrnong deputy Mayor, Cr Bernadette Thomas said this year’s theme highlights the collective effort needed to create a world where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.
“International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder we must continue to use our work to break down barriers for women and girls everywhere,” said Cr Thomas.
“We must continue to work together and focus on creating opportunities where women and girls can pursue their dreams, lead, and make a difference in our community. Gender equality isn’t just a goal – it’s a necessity for a fairer future,” she continued.
Building on Council’s gender equity work, IWD will be celebrated in the City of Maribyrnong with a series of events over the week, including a morning tea, film screening and community discussions focused on empowering women and girls to shape their futures.
