Local artist adds flair to first fast chargers in Melbourne’s West

Two cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) chargers – each boasting a robust 150kW capacity – are now online in the Raleigh Street Carpark, in the heart of Footscray.
The Evie Network chargers, the first fast chargers in Melbourne’s West, can accommodate up to four vehicles at the same time, helping address the growing demand for efficient charging infrastructure in our municipality and surrounds.
The chargers are powered by 100 per cent renewable energy.
Local artist, Andy Robertson, has also put his stamp on the pioneering project, with a full body wrap surrounding the switch board and rectifier unit.
It depicts energy sources in an urban environment and on a human scale - sunlight beaming down on a local park with a breeze aimlessly toying with fallen leaves.
He said the title of his artwork, The Air Abuzz with Energy, holds a dual significance: it reflects the fact the air around us as we traverse the streets is literally brimming with potential sources of energy, while metaphorically celebrating the immense energy and effort being put into the urgent task of transitioning to a society powered by renewable energy.
As more people transition to EVs, Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam, said the installation of these fast chargers will support the evolving needs of our community.
"The installation in Footscray not only embodies Council's steadfast dedication to sustainability but also champions a pivotal transition towards a cleaner, greener future in transportation.
As motorists increasingly embrace the era of fast and sustainable electric vehicle charging within our community, we stand poised to lead the charge towards a more environmentally conscious future.”
The installation of the EV chargers has been funded through the Federal Government’s Future Fuels Fund, which is administered by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency.
