Get Active! Expo: get a taste of sport and wellbeing activities
Published on 19 February 2018
Have you ever wanted to try a new sporting activity, like barefoot bowls, street orienteering, boxing, or archery, but didn’t know where to start? Or perhaps your children want to try something new, like hip hop, netball, hockey, or table tennis. You can give them all a go during the Get Active! Expo.
A series of sport, recreation and wellbeing programs, the Expo delivers a four and a half week program jam packed with clinics and ‘come and try’ days to suit everyone’s tastes.
Running from 17 March to 18 April, the whole family can take part in activities that showcase the parks, reserves and facilities within the City of Maribyrnong. The best part? It’s completely free!
Now in its fifth year, the Expo is designed to showcase the huge range of sport and recreation opportunities on offer in our City. It’s the ultimate ‘try before you buy’ program, with sessions accessible to all ages and abilities.
Local Maribyrnong resident Olympia said the Expo reminded her family of the importance of keeping fit.
“Since being involved in the Expo, where we tried out barefoot bowls, badminton and gym sessions, we have made an effort to walk regularly, and my husband has joined the gym with his son,” Olympia said.
With 36 activities to choose from, you will undoubtedly get a taste of what new activity lies on your horizon. Best of all, each participant can access a free ten visit pass to Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre or RecWest Footscray.
Olympia can’t wait to get involved in the Expo this year.
“We enjoy the Expo so much that we look forward to it every year. We love being involved with other members of the community, and trying different activities helps to keep us motivated,” Olympia continued.
This year, Council is partnering with some of Victoria’s premier sporting organisations, including Melbourne Renegades, Cricket Victoria, Melbourne City Football Club, Tennis Victoria, and Melbourne United Basketball Club, to deliver the Expo. On top of this, there are plenty of local sporting clubs from the City of Maribyrnong taking part.
Registrations are now open.
