The recipients of the third round of Council’s Love Your West Grants have been announced, with 18 grants totalling $165,525 awarded to a range of not-for-profits and businesses across the City of Maribyrnong.

Each grant, providing up to $10,000, will fund activities scheduled from February to June 2025, contributing significantly to our City’s cultural and economic vibrancy.

Among the recipients is Alejandra Diaz’s ‘Gamelans Square,’ which will transform Byron Plaza into a vibrant Indo-Asian cultural hub on 29 March, featuring Wayang puppet theatre, traditional dance, and DJs.

Other projects receiving funding include 4 People’s ‘Sunrise Sessions,’ set to energise Sunday mornings in Footscray with wellness activities, DJ grooves and wholesome breakfast offerings, and ‘Say Cheese presents Trocadero’ will turn Trocadero Arcade into a lively night-time destination on 5 April, complete with live music, artworks and El Salvadorian cuisine.

In addition, Troy Rainbow’s ‘The Door in Question’ promises an immersive extended reality (XR) theatre experience that blends virtual reality, live performance, and local interaction in central Footscray; and Independence Australia’s ‘Accessible Comedy Festival’ will host inclusive comedy events in June, highlighting comedians with disabilities or neurodiversity.

Launched in 2023 under the Maribyrnong Festivals and Activation Framework 2022-26, the Love Your West Grants Program aims to enhance community vibrancy and stimulate economic growth through two key streams: Place-based Initiatives and Night Time Diversification. The Place-based Initiatives stream supports activities that creatively activate public spaces and neighbourhoods, while the Night Time Diversification stream boosts Maribyrnong’s appeal as a premier night-time destination.

Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari said, "These grants are a fantastic way to bring our community together, showcasing Maribyrnong’s creativity and diversity while boosting our local economy. We are proud to support such innovative projects that breathe life into our City."
