Building the foundation for our municipality's future
Published on 28 November 2024
Council has moved into the next phase of engagement on the Community Vision, and Council, Asset and Financial plans – to further unpack what we have heard in initial conversations with the community in the earlier part of this year.
During this second phase, we are going into more detail around the challenges Council is facing and seeking guidance from residents around ways to address these. Broadly, this is about how we can continue to deliver services and manage our assets and programs to meet increasing community expectations from a growing population on a constrained budget.
A representative group of residents has met for the first of three Foundations for Tomorrow workshops to dive into these challenges further. In addition, we are seeking feedback from the broader Maribyrnong community via kitchen table conversations with diverse networks, and an online deliberative survey designed to involve more community members in this important discussion.
This phase follows broader engagement, which began in mid-2024, attracting feedback from more than 500 residents via 13 in-person events, online via Your City Your Voice, hard copy postcards, and via Hello Lamp Post signs across the City.
During this initial engagement there was general support for the current Community Vision with adjustments to provide greater focus on our history and diverse and sustainable community. There was no clear view around how we should manage our community assets, and some calls to review our current expenditure.
We’ll be unpacking this further during this phase of engagement with the collective feedback informing the development of new draft plans, which we will share with the community for further comment in early 2025.
This is an exciting opportunity to help influence the key strategic documents that determine future service delivery for the whole municipality.

Conversation closes midnight Sunday 15 December 2024.
