Maribyrnong City Council is launching the next round of a pilot program to provide creative spaces in underutilised commercial properties in the Footscray CBD.

Expressions of interest for co-working space and exhibitions will open on 6 January for the next phase of Council’s Creative Places Pilot Program – supported by investment from the Victorian Government’s Creative Neighbourhoods Partnership Pilot Program.

Opportunities for three one-month exhibitions are available between February – May 2025 with co-working space for creative practitioners, small arts organisations or creative businesses, also available from 10 February 2025.

These opportunities are available in the VU Connectivity Centre through a partnership with Victoria University and the Footscray University Town Initiative.

“The Creative Places Pilot Program has already created some exciting activations in the Footscray CBD and Council is excited to see these successes continue into the future for our creative community. We encourage any eligible creative individual or organisation to investigate the opportunities, to see if it is something you could benefit from,” Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari said.

Footscray has already been reaping the benefits of the program, with the utilisation of available spaces in the Metro West Building at 136 Nicholson Street.

Liew Ceramics – located in shop 32 – is offering hand-building workshops and courses for the community, with a shopfront where Liew will sell their ceramic wares, and a studio space to collaborate with other artists of other mediums. The Rest of Us (TROU) – located in shop 25 – will run workshops covering various art forms such as drawing, DJing and music, as well as hosting several art exhibitions with artworks for sale. World’s Worst Wagga Guild who work to democratise art-making will be running all day scrap quilting intensives, as well as ‘bring your own project’ sessions – located at shops 37 and 38.

Around the corner at 251 Barkly Street, Debris Facility presents Conduction, a gallery, workshop, library, performance space, and retail area.

Read through the guidelines for each of the two available Creative Places opportunities and apply by midnight Thursday 30 January 2025 at https://www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au/arts-and-culture/Programs/Maribyrnong-Creative-Places-Pilot-Program-2024-2025/Maribyrnong-Creative-Places-Program-Expressions-of-Interest
