Community Grants recipients to strengthen our diverse community

Council has announced the successful recipients of the Community Grants Program 2024 who will share a grant pool of $255,000. Council endorsed recommendations provided by the Independent Review Panel in the selection process, granting funding for 22 projects to be delivered in 2025.
City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Cr Pradeep Tiwari, noted the value the grants program provides to our municipality, empowering our residents to invest in initiatives by and for the community.
“From enhancing intercultural connection, LGBTQIA+ community arts exhibitions, disability education and advocacy and more, this year’s grant recipients are working to highlight connection in our diverse community in unique and innovative ways,” he said.
“Across the diversity of projects, one core theme has emerged – the focus on enhancing community connection, both within specific demographic groups as well as strengthening ties across demographic groups to build a more unified City,” Mayor Tiwari added.
Among the successful applicants:
- U3A Maribyrnong Inc - Cultural Exchange U3A Maribyrnong will work with partners to run two events targeting older members of the Vietnamese, Chinese and Filipino communities to encourage intercultural connections.
- Queer-ways - Queer in Maribyrnong Queer-ways will present a workshop that aims to unite LGBTQIA+ youth from local high school PRIDE groups and other organisations to develop a community arts exhibition designed by and for youth.
- Annecto - Community Content, a Speakers Bank production Speakers Bank supports people with disability to connect with the community by sharing their lived experience and advocating for positive change. The project will see volunteers (speakers) with disability plan, produce and share online content that addresses barriers to participating in community life, and presents solutions.
- Intertwine - FUSE — Finding Unity in Shared Experience Intertwine will run an 18 week leadership program for young people with lived experience of multiple and intersecting experiences of disadvantage. Facilitated by queer and POC program workers and neurodivergent peer workers, the program aims to improve mental health, social connection, skills and capacity as participants identify and respond to issues in their communities.
