Celebrate nature, life and love at the Bathukamma Festival of Flowers
Savour the cultural delights of India with fabulous music and dance at this year’s Bathukamma Festival of Flowers, running on Saturday 23 September.
Now in its 5th year, the Festival hails from India and honours nature and its offerings. More than 2,000 local Melbourne Indian Telugu Telangana people, including both locals and visitors, are expected to attend the Festival.
Organiser and President of the Melbourne Telangana Forum, Praveen Kumar Thopucherla said: “Bathukamma is a nine-day festival celebrated by Hindu Women of the Telangana State in India with exotic flowers of the region. The Bathukamma is made from different types of flowers which are known to have medicinal values. Women gather in a large circle around the flowers and sing songs by making rounds around them repeatedly, building a beautiful human circle of unity, love, sisterhood.”
The Festival will grace Braybrook’s RecWest and treat festival-goers to traditional music and dance, Indian games, children’s entertainment and talks by Indian Dance Groups and community speakers.
