Annual Book Week celebrations are returning to Maribyrnong Libraries from 20-26 August, with daily Story Time sessions at libraries across the municipality.

Families are welcome to join their local Story Time Session and come dressed in their favourite book character!

Annually since 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week. During this week, schools and public libraries across the country celebrate books and Australian children's authors and illustrators through book club events and activities.

Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians often create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.

Locals can join Maribyrnong Libraries at Story Time sessions during Book Week:

  • Monday 22 August at 11am – Yarraville Library
  • Tuesday 23 August at 11am – Braybrook Library
  • Wednesday 24 August at 11am – Footscray Library
  • Thursday 25 August at 11am – Maribyrnong Library
  • Friday 26 August at 11am – West Footscray Library

Message from the Mayor, Cr Anthony Tran

Reading is such an important skill that supports a child’s development and creativity throughout their life, which is why local libraries, which provide the opportunity to support reading, are such an important part of our community. They’re a safe haven that foster creativity, learning and curiosity. Children around our City enjoy our weekly Story Time sessions, and I’m sure they’ll enjoy getting dressed up as their favourite book characters during Book Week just as much.
