Maribyrnong has a vibrant arts and creative industries sector and it is important we have a robust strategy to support it and our rich, diverse cultural identity.

The Arts and Culture Strategy 2018-23 was designed to encourage community participation, celebration and creative expression, while also supporting the local creative sector by providing funding and brokering opportunities.

“As we look to the future, we want to continue to harness Maribyrnong’s diverse cultural identity and emerging creative energies to position the City as a leading cultural hub in Melbourne’s west,” Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam said.

A new five-year strategy for arts, culture and creativity will explore ways to advance local creative industries, provide strategic direction for arts and culture programs, support economic and cultural growth, and foster community connectedness.

It will also look at ways to unlock funding and advocacy opportunities, specifically in cultural infrastructure.

Mayor, Cr Cuc Lam, said arts and culture is increasingly recognised as vital to the development of our communities.

“It supports residents to live whole and connected lives, is crucial to the future – and has multiple ‘halo’ effects, including drawing customers to local business, which is a major driver for tourism.”

We are asking residents initially to share their thoughts about the importance of arts, culture and creativity to support the development of a new Strategy. Whether you are an artist, member of an arts or creative organisation, or simply passionate about our City’s creative and cultural life, your feedback is important.

Feedback closes midnight Sunday 15 September 2024.
