VicHealth Local Government Partnership
In February 2023, Council joined the Local Government Partnership Program (VLGP) with The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) to ensure children and young people have the opportunity to grow up active, socially connected and healthy.
Through the VLGP Maribyrnong has become a Fast Track Council supporting us to amplify the voices and experiences of children and young people to create a healthier future.
Through the VLGP, VicHealth offers critical funding, resources and access to expert support to enable councils to bring local health promotion work to life.
What does this mean for the City of Maribyrnong?
Council is committed to enhancing and strengthening the work that we are currently delivering through partnerships and collaboration across the municipality. Through this partnership, Council will create innovative and engaging recreational programs through Active Maribyrnong, to encourage and promote the benefits of participating in recreation to young people. The overall goal is to ensure all children within the City meet the Physical Activity Guidelines.
We will deliver activities to increase active travel for children and young people, walking and bike riding promotion, and increasing gender equity in community sport and recreation.
Programs will be rolled out from June 2023, so keep an eye out for further information about how you can get involved.
