Walking circuits

Walking is a great way to learn about your city, neighbours and local community and is easy to do – just put on your shoes, wear something comfortable, and head out the door!

Edgewater Lake circuit

Maribyrnong

2.5km circuit (including North and South wetlands)

The path starts at Edgewater Estate and runs along past the marina, Edgewater Lake and the river. The complete loop includes both the North and South wetlands where you can see lots of flora and fauna.

Footscray Park, wetlands and racecourse circuit

Footscray/Maidstone/Maribyrnong

3.2km circuit

Start at the historic Hobson's Road Footbridge, walk past Newells Paddock Wetlands along the river to the Victorian Heritage listed Edwardian gardens of Footscray Park. From the Footscray boat club cross the river at the Farnsworth Ave Bridge, and head down the steps back to the Maribyrnong River. The path follows the river past Flemington Racecourse and horse stables. Route includes steps and is not suitable for prams.

Cruickshank Park loop

Yarraville/Kingsville/West Footscray

1.1km loop

The path loops between the Austin Cres footbridge and Drew St footbridge and runs alongside Stony Creek river. You can extend this walk by adding on segments at either end by following the marked paths.

Chifley Drive and rowing club

Maribyrnong

4.2km loop

Start at Leopold Street near the Anglers Tavern, follow the path along the river and Chifley Drive past the Coulson Gardens to Afton Street footbridge. Cross the bridge onto the North side of the river, follow the track along Riverside Park past Essendon Rowing Club to Maribyrnong Road, finishing back at the Angler's Tavern.

Westgate Memorial Park to Newport

Yarraville

1.8km (one way)

Start at the Westgate Memorial Park near the Stony Creek backwash. Follow the path along the foreshore to the Newport Power Station, Newport Park and athletics track.

Cranwell Park

Braybrook / Maribyrnong

1.9km (one way)

Start at the historic Solomon's Ford and follow the track along the bank of the river past Cranwell Park to the Medway Golf Club.
