Maintenance
Council undertakes a range of cleaning services in the Footscray CBD. Each day we undertake street and footpath sweeping and collect any dumped rubbish.
We undertake high pressure washing of the Nicholson Street Mall, Chambers Lane and the Byron (Little Saigon) Plaza and surrounds five times per week (weekdays). We also high pressure wash other CBD laneways on a weekly basis. Footpaths are high pressured washed at least twice yearly.
Illegal graffiti is identified by Council’s Cleansing Unit during their daily rubbish removal tasks. Offensive graffiti is removed within 24 hours by Council while other graffiti is removed regularly as part of our routine program. Graffiti on private land is the responsibility of the landowner, with Council issuing notice on property owners to remove graffiti on their land.
Council has proactively, via a grant from Creative Victoria, undertaken painting of murals on blank walls to deter graffiti. This also provides an attractive and inviting artwork for the public to enjoy.
