Volunteer Tutors
Our Family Inclusive Language Learning Support Program (FILLS Program) aims to ensure students of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, living in or around the City of Maribyrnong, are supported to achieve their full educational potential.
The program currently runs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4pm to 5.30pm, and is seeking volunteers to assist newly arrived families according to the following program objectives:
- Improved literacy and numeracy outcomes for primary and secondary school students.
- Development of early years school readiness.
- Parents and children engaged in a cross-cultural community environment.
- Improved retention outcomes for secondary school students.
- Improved access to tertiary pathways for secondary college students.
This is a rewarding opportunity for anyone with a passion for education would be well suited for.
About the opportunity
Volunteer tutors commit to attending each Tuesday and Friday afternoon of the school term between 4pm and 5:30pm at the Braybrook Community Hub, 107-139 Churchill Avenue, Braybrook (view map).
Volunteer tutors support early years, primary or secondary school students, from refugee and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, with homework and enhanced literacy and numeracy. This will be delivered through a range of learning activities linked to the curriculum of participating schools.
Tutors do require a current Working with Children Check and will be required to attend a volunteer induction session.
