To help preserve the rich history of Henderson House and improve its functionality and amenity, Council is making upgrades to the building.

Upcoming works include:

  • the renewal of the twin staircases
  • the renewal of the structural posts
  • the renewal of the handrails and balustrading on the verandah
  • replacement of the window lintels and frames
  • replacement of the external weatherboard cladding

As part of the Henderson House renewal, Council has recently repainted the interior, replaced carpets and timber flooring, and improved lighting in 2020. As Henderson House is a state listed heritage building, the proposed works have been approved by Heritage Victoria.

Works are expected to commence in the week beginning 8 February, 2021, with temporary fencing being installed from 4 February. The works are expected to be completed by May 2021.

During the construction works Footscray Community Arts Centre and Myrtle Wine Café will remain open to the community.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.
