The Social Impact Assessment Policy and Guidelines aim to assist Council officers and developers when preparing a social impact assessment (SIA) for developments associated with rezoning and planning applications of more than 300 dwellings. They reflect the requirements for SIA outlined in Maribyrnong Planning Scheme at Clause 21.04 Settlement and 21.07 Housing.
The policy and guidelines include information about:
Triggers and components for SIA
The process for applicants undertaking an SIA
How to consider the social effects that inform an SIA
These SIAs form the basis for Council and developers to negotiate strategies to minimise any negative social effects and maximise the community benefit of rezoning and planning applications of more than 300 dwellings.
The Social Impact Assessment Policy and Guidelines endorsed at Council’s Ordinary meeting 11 December 2018 replaces the existing 2002 guidelines.
