Central West Structure Plan

Background

The Central West Structure Plan 2008 is the current guiding document for Council, stakeholders and the community. The Plan establishes a long-term vision for the Central West Major Activity Centre and provides policy direction on land use activity, the design of new buildings and public spaces, and how people get to and move around the Centre.

The Braybrook Industrial Precinct within the Centre was designated as a Strategic Employment Investigation Area when the Maribyrnong Economic and Industrial Development Strategy (MEIDS) was implemented into the Planning Scheme in 2015. The designation meant that the precinct requires further strategic planning such as preparing a new Structure Plan to determine its future role and land use.

Council began the process of preparing a new Structure Plan by carrying out an existing conditions study of the precinct and organised consultation with the local community, business stakeholders and public authorities in 2020.  The feedback received and study outcome were presented to Council for consideration in June 2020.  A report of the Council meeting, and a brochure summarising the results of the community consultation as well as the emerging issues and opportunities are available for download in the links below.
