Building safety
If you are undertaking building works in the City of Maribyrnong, please make sure you comply with safety regulations. We regularly inspect building sites in City of Maribyrnong to check compliance with industry standards and state building regulations.
We may also check that essential safety measures are being maintained in commercial, public industrial and some residential buildings.
Annual essential safety measures
All commercial, public industrial and some residential buildings require an Annual Essential Safety Measures Report to confirm essential safety measures have been maintained over the past 12 months. We may request to see this at any time.

Swimming pools and spas
Please install safety barriers around swimming pools and spas (including portable spas). Suitable barriers include fencing and lockable gates, doors and windows.
A Building Permit must be obtained prior to installation.

We may randomly inspect properties for compliance to the regulations and Australian Standard. Penalties of up to $50,000 apply.
Smoke alarms
All residential properties and residential parts of commercial buildings and dwellings must have smoke alarms installed and operational. We may visit sites at any time to ensure compliance.
