Maidstone Child and Family Centre Opening

Playgroups meet up for socialising and learning where families can enjoy a few hours of fun with their children aged birth to five years.

Playgroups usually meet once a week for two hours. Venues in your local community include community centres, schools, homes or parks. Download files below for more information.

Most playgroups are casually run by parents or carers with the times, venue and play activities chosen to suit the group. Playgroups can have excursions or incursions and are encouraged to have insurance and stay connected when parents return to work. Playgroup Victoria has information on playgroups across Victoria and resources.

Some playgroups are led by a facilitator to provide more support for young parents, children with additional needs or multicultural families.

Maribyrnong Supported Playgroups

Early Years - Supported Playgroups - Flyer image - 2016

Supported playgroups offer play, socialising and connection to early years services. These groups use a range of simple, positive parenting strategies called Smalltalk. Parents learn to celebrate their parenting successes and are encouraged to develop their own parenting strategies to practice. Home visits are available for one on one support by arrangement with the family. Referrals from families and services are welcomed (form available for download below).

Central West Play

Central West Play is an outreach playgroup located at a local shopping centre. Families enjoy free play and learn about services. This video was made in 2015 and features the Mayor at the time, Cr Nam Quach.
